Nearly every wedding dress will need bridal alterations. You can go to a boutique, a thrift store, order online, or use a family heirloom dress, but to get a customized fit, you are going to need the assistance of a tailor or seamstress. We talked to recent bride Cherrie C about her wedding dress experience to discover the importance of a skilled tailor who will listen to what is important to you and make it a priority.

A skilled tailor will listen to your requests and make suggestions for bridal alterations to give you the dream dress you want.

Cherrie’s story started in Taiwan, where she was living with her military fiance. She had a gorgeous dress and took it to a local tailor to have the fit customized. When she picked it up, she quickly realized that the bridal alterations had not been done well and feared that the dress had actually been ruined. “The straps weren’t adjusted properly, the cups didn’t fit, the cut of the dress was now higher than I wanted, and they refused to bustle it.”

While she was still in Taiwan, Cherrie did an online search and reached out via email to Tad More Tailoring. She sent pictures of the dress and asked if the tailor could work with it. Once the alterations were confirmed she easily booked an appointment via their website for when she would be in the USA. “Tad More made it look absolutely beautifully stunning on me! They fixed the straps and the cups, created the most beautiful bustle, added a hoop skirt, and even worked on the tiny pieces of fabric that lifted in awkward ways to have them lay more naturally! I truly ended up loving my dress after feeling like I had ruined it in Taiwan.” She felt like every detail had been heard and turned into a reality.

Cherrie’s bridal alterations weren’t the only way that Tad More Tailoring was part of the wedding memories though. Her fiancé's return to the states had been delayed until just two days before the wedding! The tailor and staff at Tad More were ready and waiting for him, fitting his tux with emergency status. His parents and other members of the wedding party also had their formalwear alterations completed at Tad More.

Your bridal alterations should enhance the best memories of your day, not distract you from them.

When asked what the favorite part of her wedding day was, aside from marrying the love of her life, Cherrie replied “after the ceremony, we and our wedding party were boated (in my now flawlessly bustled dress) across a lake in a beautiful vintage yacht to our reception. There were no obligations but to just take everything in with your best friends. It was the BEST time. That and my sister’s wedding toast!” Not having to worry about the train of her dress dragging on the boat or being walked on, she was free to be fully present and savor each special moment. And THAT is a gift she will have forever.
